Searching insurance options for expats in Mexico

Medical Insurance in Mexico City

A discussion about a community member searching for insurance recommendations without a broker

is there a site I can go to find insurance options? I really haven't enjoyed the experience of working with an agent as they just send quotes, and I want to be able to look at options and play with the variables myself (i.e. type of coverage, cost, deductible, etc). Is there a site to at least explore this? I am fine working with an agent to purchase, but I want to explore options without having to go thorugh them for each iteration.

I do believe the insurance model in Mexico is made for you to work closely with your agent. I usually play with the options right in front of my clients, so I would have a problem doing it with you. Bupa’s website does allow you to see some options without a “professional help”

Hey hey! To do this you’d have to know which plans you’re interested in. It’s the difference between going to a shoe store to browse and going right to the company warehouse. Part of what we do in insurance is help amalgamate options within a certain niche. For example, there are some people in this chat who only sell Mexican insurances which require you to have residency. Others sell insurance from the Global market. You probably won’t see both options fully with either. There’s also other benefits to buying “from a shoe store” (i.e. agent) such as direct claims support and other perks which you don’t get by purchasing directly from the company. A good agent should be teaching you about your insurance options so you can make an informed decision on more than just $$! If they just send quotes, run away haha. You NEVER pay more (unless you’re being scammed) to work with an agent. The insurance company pays us agents a “finders fee” of sorts but the plans are not cheaper direct through the insurance. Sometimes AI searches can help you start to narrow things down but I’ve found that the ChatGPT summaries often times mix together features of different plans and aren’t super accurate so things can get confusing. I hope that helps!!

Yes, I already have it narrowed down, but when I've chatted with two agents before they make me choose options and then send quotes (i.e. diff hospital types, etc). I want to be able to play with the variables: i.e. hospitals in this group, deductible options, etc, and see the way those variables affect the price, rather than having to have the agent send me quotes. Bascially I want to see the variables myself if that makes sense.

Hi Sarah, if you're able to do this with/for me I'd be interested. The other agents I've contacted don't really allow me to see the pricing structures given the different variables

You should be able to just to go to the website and press cotizar/quote on the plan/company you’re looking for!
