Upper gastrointestinal endoscopy is a diagnostic procedure in which a thin, flexible tube with a camera is inserted through the mouth to examine the esophagus, stomach, and upper small intestine. This allows the doctor to visualize the tissue, take biopsies, or perform treatments if needed.
